What to bring for your Renewal of Firearms Competency in South Africa as at Jan 2016
- SAP517(g) completed in black ink. This you can get from the local SAPS firearms officer
- 2 x testimonials. Download the testimonial form here to save on time. Instructions on the form. If you click on the link and see an image, just print the image (File--> Print or press Ctrl key and P key at the same time)
- 2 x colour photos. For photo requirements see below.
- R70 cash ZAR
- Original ID and 2 copies
- Original Training Certificates and 1 copy
- Original firearms licence and 1 copy
- Original competency card (or printout) and 1 copy
- Proof of Address
- Black pen to fill out the forms
- Bottle of water (while you wait)

Photo requirements for SAPS renewals (license and competency)
- Photo must be in colour
- Max 38mm wide, max 52mm height
- must be front view of head and shoulders
- background must be plain
- no hats
- no sunglasses
- ID number on back of the photo
